Annual Conference Great Day of Service

In 2007, The United Methodist Men of North Georgia where requested to provide backpacks full of school supplies for the Great Day of Service at Annual Conference.  Men, you responded with over 600 backpacks!

For 2008, the UMMen have been requested to participate in a unique way as we have been asked to provide the contents for 12 Medicine Box Kits and a monetary donation of $375 for each kit.   The Medicine Boxes are to be assembled during the Great Day of Service event on June 18th.

Looking though the list of contents for a Medicine Box it becomes evident that the 12 requested box could be completed by 12 UMMen Fellowships.  Therefore the leadership of the UMMen is challenging the men of North Georgia to provide supplies for the kits and monetary contributions in much greater abundance, potentially provided hundreds of completed Medicine Box kits.

What is a Medicine Box

A typical Medicine Box® contains 18 essential drugs and medical supplies-- enough to treat illnesses and injuries in a population of about a thousand people for three months. These are basic medicines and supplies needed for day-to-day care of the common ailments that plague babies, children, their mothers, and adults of all ages.

From A to Z: Medicine Boxes Make a Big Difference

Many clinics and hospitals do not have basic medicines available on a regular basis. Since 1994 United Methodists have provided more than 3,000 of the boxes in an A-to-Z list of 42 countries– from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe. Working with Interchurch Medical Assistance, UMCOR coordinates church participation.
