Welcome to the first edition of the UMMens eNews, a monthly electronic publication of the United Methodist Men of the North Georgia Conference. This newsletter is intended for broad distribution to all men. Please distribute broadly to your email distribution lists. This initial eNews is being distributed to approximately 1850 UMMen emails and approximately 1000 Clergy (including District Superintendents).
Since this first issue contains both the January and Feburay news, it is larger than a typical monthly eNews, so please be patient and take the time to review each topic. Your Feedback is welcome, simply reply to this email!

Upcoming UMM Events
Couples Retreat - Pressing Toward the Mark - April 11-12 at Simpsonwood - Early registration ends Feb. 14th, Save $20. Wes and Joy Griffin our Retreat leaders. Go to www.ngcumm.com/couples08.html or more information and to register. Men, have you gotten your sweatheart a Valentines gift? Why not give that special someone a wonderful retreat experience for this year? Please register for this event now if you are planning on attending. A minimum number of registrations is required by February 27th to hold our reservations.
Super Mission Saturday - An Extraordinary Task for Ordinary Men! - Feb. 23rd at Marietta First UMC! Go to www.ngcumm.com/sms08.html for more information and to register. We will have a GREAT time of worship and learning as our keynote speaker Jeannine Brabon leads us assisted by two other missionaries from Colombia, and 12 dynamic workshops from missionaries active locally, regionally and to the ends of the earth.
Scholarships - If you are able to contribute to a the Scholarship Fund for either of these events, please include your scholarship amount with your registration, or send directly to the UMMen office (address at end of this message). We have had request for individuals who would like to attend these events but are unable due to financial difficulties as a result of job terminations.
BBQ Dinner at Annual Conference - Save the date - June 19, 2008. The UMMen will host their annual BBQ Dinner at annual conference, with Keynote Speaker Bishop Marion Edwards. Plan to come out early and join your church's delgates and pastor in the general session and then host them at the dinner
Calling All Youth and Young Adult Pastors / Ministers
The UMMen Retreats Committee is calling Youth and Young Adult Pastors / Ministers to help us in making the Rock Eagle Spiritual Retreat more youth and young adult friendly. Pass the word - invite these dedicated youth and young adult workers from your church to the Feb. 19th Retreats Committee meeting to share ideas. The committee meets in the Davis Conference Room at the United Methodist Center at Simpsonwood - for directions go to http://www.simpsonwood.org/Directions.htm. Please let us know if your Youth or Young Adult leader will be attending by replying to this email.
Mission Opportunities and Needs
Mississippi - Supplies are needed for repairs in Mississippi! There is demand for the following items to complete homes started in October: Sheetrock & Insulation. Please contact Lamar Beard at lbeard@nortel.com or 770-517-9381.
The UMMen of North Georgia sponsor Volunteer Center in Pass Christian. This center is available for a nominal charge for your teams to stay while working in the area. Contact Lamar Beard (at above email and phone) or Robert Rylee at robert@utrconst.com or 706-757-3516 for more information.
Mexico - The UMMen of North Georgia has built a number of churches in northern Mexico over the last 20+ years. Many of these churches are are now in need of repair. Ed Pratt, Mexico Coordinator for UMMen, has a priority list of projects he will be sharing during his workshop at Super Mission Saturday. Please contact Ed at elpratt2@bellsouth.net or 770-715-1784.
Are You Called to Serve?
Have you been called to serve and have a passion for ministry to men? If so, standup and be counted! We have several opportunities for men to get involved in UMMen - Mission Project Leaders, Retreats Committee Members, Conference Officer, District Officer, etc. Please share your passion with your local fellowship officers, district officers, or conference officers. You are needed!
